Falkland Islands: Falklands War – HMS Coventry is Sunk
On this day in 1982, during the Falklands War, the HMS Coventry was sunk by Argentine Air Force A-4 Skyhawk aircarft.
The HMS Coventry was a Type 42 (Sheffield Class) Destroyer in the Royal Navy, commissioned on the 10th November 1978. The Argentine bombing raid resulted in the loss of the Coventry, with 19 of her crew killed and 30 injured. The ship capsized before sinking not longer after.

Argentina Invades the Falkland Islands
On this day in 1982, the short but bloody war between Argentina and the United Kingdom, over the Falkland Islands, begun with the invasion of the islands by Argentina. Below are a series of videos dealing with the conflict and the third video deals with rising tensions over the islands once again. Argentina also occupied South Georgia and the South Sandwich Islands.

Today in History: 26 February 1815
France: Napoleon Escapes from Elba
On this day in 1815, Napoleon escaped from his exile on the island of Elba and began his return to France. His return to France and his time as the renewed Emperor of France ended with the Battle of Waterloo on the 18th June 1815. Napoleon was eventually exiled to the island of Saint Helena in the Atlantic Ocean, where he died in February 1821.
